Pipe fittings are as numerous as their applications. For example, JIC fittings play very important roles. The designation, "JIC," stands for "Joint Industry Council," a council that oversees various career fields, their tools, and their supplies via set regulations to which everyone in a specific trade union must adhere. That includes the following three career fields and why JIC fittings are invaluable to these classes and trade union groups.

1. Hydraulic Engineers

Since JIC fittings are most commonly used for fluid power control, it should not surprise you in the least that hydraulic engineers know and use this type of fitting in their line of work every day. Hydraulic engineers are hired to oversee the flow of fluid, from drinking water to wastewater. They also calculate the amount of pressure and force required to keep delivery pipes from breaking apart, which means that the pipes are often connected by JIC fittings so that every connection along the lines remains tight and secure.

2. Construction Vehicle Manufacturing

JIC fittings are also used in the manufacturing and building of construction vehicles. Any of these vehicles that uses hydraulics to lift, pull, push, or carry heavy things also have JIC fittings built into them. On the assembly line, the manufacturing crews check and recheck the installation of these fittings to make sure that the fittings will not come loose at a very critical moment while the vehicles are in operation. 

3. Oil Riggers

Crude oil does not simply bubble up to the surface of the Earth and leave you with a field of "Texas Tea."  You have to dig deep into the Earth to find an oil well and tap it. When you do, the amount of force with which the oil erupts forth needs to be managed with strong pipes and equally strong, if not stronger, pipe fittings.

Usually, only JIC fittings are able to handle that kind of pressure. Since these fittings are also constructed in various sizes and diameters, they can connect the crude oil transport pipes from the very large pipes within the well all the way up to smaller pipes at the surface or the delivery point at a refinery miles away. Working as an oil rigger, you spend a lot of time constructing all of the necessary pipework you will need to bring this oil safely to the surface and barrel it or transport it to a refinery via an oil pipeline.
